Zac Efron To Star In Film Based On The Von Erich Family Called ‘The Iron Claw’

Zac Efron is ready to step into the ring to tell the story of the Von Erich family.

According to Deadline, Efron will star in The Iron Claw, a new film based on the lives of the Von Erich family by writer and director Sean Durkin. A24 will finance the film and produce it along with Tessa Ross, Derrin Schlesinger and Harrison Huffman.

According to the synopsis, The Iron Claw will detail “the rise and fall of the Von Erich family, a dynasty of wrestlers who made a huge impact on the sport from the 1960s to the present day.” Efron’s role was not confirmed at the time of publication.

Fritz Von Erich, the patriarch of the famed wrestling family, passed away from cancer in 1997, and his firstborn son, Jack Jr., died at age 6 due to accidental drowning. David Von Erich died in Tokyo in 1984 due to enteritis (inflammation of the small intestine), while three of Fritz’s other sons, Mike (1987), Chris (1991), and Kerry (1993), committed suicide. Kevin Von Erich is the last surviving son of Fritz, and his sons, Marshall and Ross, currently wrestle for Major League Wrestling. Kerry’s daughter, Lacey, also joined the wrestling business and had a run with TNA/IMPACT Wrestling.

The Iron Claw is one of many pro-wrestling-related projects in the works, as Chris Hemsworth is currently attached to a Hulk Hogan biopic. Hemsworth recently gave an update, telling ComicBook.com that it’s still a work in progress and being developed.
