In the wrestling business, plans change constantly, and according to a new report, this saying has been especially relevant to AEW‘s recent booking for its tag team division.
In a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, he cited talent who noted that word got around prior to AEW Double or Nothing that the company was thinking about having The Hardys (Matt and Jeff) win the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Some of the talent grew frustrated after they heard that Jeff had been publicly intoxicated, both at the show and at the hotel ahead of ahead event. Some talent that Ross Sapp spoke to were concerned about Hardy’s performance at AEW Double or Nothing, but “it was claimed” that Hardy hurt his head early on in the contest.
After AEW Double or Nothing, Ross Sapp stated that Fightful head that the plan changed so that The Young Bucks would win the titles; while that hasn’t been confirmed, the Double or Nothing match, particularly Jeff’s performance, was seemingly a factor for the reason talks of crowning The Hardys decreased.
Ross Sapp also wrote that there has been overall frustration in regards to the tag title scene in the aftermath of Jeff’s injury and “some indications” a similar situation could happen in the future.
Jeff Hardy was arrested for DUI, among other charges, on June 13, and he has been suspended indefinitely. He and Matt were scheduled to challenge Jurassic Express for the titles in a three-may match the included The Young Bucks on the June 15 episode of AEW Dynamite, but they were removed from the bout after the arrest.
