Thunder Rosa stepped into the ring to defend her AEW Women’s Championship against Marina Shafir on the June 8 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Rosa was victorious in the bout, but some fans believed that the champion was “sandbagging” and “no selling” the challenger.
During an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Rosa commented on the situation by denying the allegations and saying she has nothing but respect for her opponents.
“No,” said Rosa. “And I’m gonna say it like I would say it in the ‘New York Post’. I have nothing but respect for my opponents. Nothing but respect for my opponents. Anyone that dares stand in the ring with me, I have nothing but respect for my opponents. And I send them nothing but blessings. Moving on forward, I will continue to work harder to have the best matches I can bring and to bring the most opportunities for all the women that are behind me. So when they step in the ring with me, they’re like, ‘Okay cool.’
“People are gonna talk. And that’s fine, I’m not worried about that. I will continue to move forward and I will continue to show, with my body of work, what I’m all about. That’s all I have to say.”
How is this Shafirs fault? that match was crap (and the booking weird) but if you rewatch it, its mostly down to Rosa sandbagging Shafir seemingly for no reason, she does it all through the fight. pic.twitter.com/JopsLCRPAW
