D’Lo Brown enjoyed his time as a member of the IMPACT Wrestling commentary team, but he is now focusing on his other responsibilities behind the scenes.
The veteran joined the broadcast team in January 2021, but he exited the role after he was beaten up by Honor No More earlier this year.
In an interview with Alistair McGeorge of Metro.co.uk, Brown discussed his transition way from the commentary table and made it clear that he decided to prioritize his work in the talent relations department.
“It was more me focusing on the talent relations side backstage,” said Brown. “Commentary takes up so much of your time in preparation for it, talent relations – I wasn’t paying full enough attention to that. I needed to get back to the core product of what I was doing.”
Through his work in talent relations, Brown’s main tasks involve scouting, dealing with contracts, and monitoring the wrestlers’ “mental state,” as he told McGeorge.
“It’s all-inclusive,” said Brown. “I’ve always been that agent type where I help guys with their matches, or give ideas. It was a natural progression.”
The wrestling veteran emphasized that he enjoys working with talent and watching them grow; he compared it to parenting and called it a “fun ride.”
“There’s a prideful thing. It’s like a dad pushing his son on a bike and watching him ride off for the first time,” said Brown. “It’s a fun ride. I almost get more joy out of this part of it, this aspect of it, than being in the ring myself.”
Ultimately, Brown noted that he’s doing what he loves, as he has always been passionate about working in the wrestling industry, no matter the role.
“I’m watching wrestling for a living or I’m wearing spandex for a living,” said Brown. “I think about all those who support me, and they’re the ones going to work at the paper mill or going out and being a garbage collector or whatever.
“Everyone has a great place in life, but golly, I get to do what I love for a living!”
