FTR On Their Current Run: People Are Finally Resonating With Us, We Can Go Even Higher

FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) is widely viewed as one of the best tag teams in the world, but they don’t think they’ve peaked yet.

The duo won the tag team titles on all three brands during their time with WWE. Since their arrival in AEW, they’ve won the gold there, and they currently hold both the AAA and ROH tag team titles.

During an interview with Brandon Walker of Barstool Rasslin’, when asked about their current run, Wheeler made it clear that he thinks they can reach greater heights. He noted that fans are finally resonating with them; whereas the duo has often played dastardly heels, now they’re just two (top) guys that love wrestling, and fans are seeing that every night they perform.

Cash Wheeler: “I think we can go higher,” said Wheeler. “I think we’re transcending right now. I think we’re making a leap from where we were for a while, and people are finally getting onboard the FTR train. And we’ve worked long enough, hard enough and given people enough where they started to invest in us as just people. They respect what we do out there. The people are gonna appreciate good wrestling. Wrestling fans like good wrestling.”

Harwood noted that they’ve been able to showcase more of their “cool s—” now, as they don’t have to worry about making fans love their opponent. In doing so, audiences are able to appreciate FTR in a different way.

“I think more than anything, the reason people are starting to resonate with us is because we’re opening up and allowing them to,” said Harwood. “I think for so long we did our job as bad guys, where not that we made people hate us, but we made people love the babyfaces we worked with. And we knew that as bad guys, we had to take some of our cool s— out. And so now that we’re good guys and they’ve brought themselves into FTR, they’re allowed to say holy s—, these guys are awesome.”

Wheeler and Harwood aren’t currently on the card for AEW Double or Nothing, but they have a new threat, Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb, in their sights, as the NJPW stars attacked them during the May 25 episode of AEW Dynamite.
