Mickie James has weighed in on the recent walkout by WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Sasha Banks and Naomi.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, former WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James garnered support for her former colleagues:
“I actually applaud them standing in their convictions and how they felt if that’s how they felt. If that’s how they felt and they felt disrespected or they felt unheard or they felt any of those things, at the end of the day we are still independent contractors. We argue — they did show up to work that day. They saw whatever they were supposed to do or perhaps they had committed at least half the day. So, because I wasn’t there to hear the whole thing, again you’re only hearing what they [put out].”
James went on to recall WWE’s official statement on Banks and Naomi, noting her shock that WWE released the statement altogether:
“Honestly, when I saw the statement [from WWE], I was a bit in shock that WWE would even put out this statement because of — and I couldn’t believe that Vince signed off of this statement, because I was just looking at it going ‘who wrote this thing?’. However, I can’t remember a time that a statement has really been put out,” James revealed her surprise.
“There’s always, ‘Card subject to change,’ and there have certainly been people who have left, just left, packed up, and went home, or have been, quote on quote, deemed ‘unprofessional’, but it’s never been called out before. So I find that a bit ironic. I don’t know why they would put out a statement. It’s almost like they sold for it quickly.”
