STRONG Openweight Championship Match Set For NJPW Collision In Philadelphia

Tom Lawlor will defend the STRONG Openweight Championship at NJPW Collision in Philadelphia.

Though Fred Rosser lost his bout on the newest episode of NJPW STRONG, Lawlor gave him the title shot he’s been chasing for a while now. But “Filthy Tom” attached a significant stipulation to the contest; if Rosser loses, his career on STRONG is over.

Rosser has been feuding with Lawlor in recent months; in one highlight of the conflict, Lawlor cut Rosser’s hair, hoping to humiliate him. “Filthy Tom” is the first and only STRONG Openweight Champion in the history of the title; he won it at the New Japan Cup in April 2021.

The announcement, courtesy of NJPW‘s official website, is as follows:

After months of campaigning, Fred Rosser will finally have one last shot at the STRONG Openweight Championship Sunday in Philadelphia. The opportunity came despite Rosser losing a handicap match this week on STRONG to the West Coast Wrecking Crew, after he showed his resolve by shaving his own head. Lawlor would again deny Mr. No Days Off his title shot before granting it on the condition that Rosser’s career on STRONG ends if he loses.

It’s title versus loser leaves STRONG Sunday in Philly!

The updated card is as follows:

  • Strong Openweight Championship: Tom Lawlor (c) vs. Fred Rosser
  • Killer Kross vs. Yuya Uemera
  • Brody King vs. Jake Something
  •  Minoru Suzuki vs. Tony Deppen
  • Team Filthy vs, Alex Coughlin, Kevin Knight, & The DKC
  • QT Marshall vs. Karl Fredericks
  • David Finlay vs. Danny Limelight
  • Delirious vs. Ariya Daivari
