Most fans believe MJF‘s references to 2024, where he might leave All Elite Wrestling to join WWE, are done to create controversy, but there might be more to it than meets the eye.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, while it appeared that things had been settled between MJF and AEW President Tony Khan following their backstage argument last month, that might no longer be the case. This stemmed from Friedman taking an interview with Ariel Helwani without clearing it through All Elite Wrestling’s PR department first and MJF being less than thrilled about his current contract situation with the company.
Sapp reports that MJF is now reportedly leaning towards not re-signing with All Elite Wrestling when his contract expires in 2024. With two years remaining on his contract, it’s not certain that Friedman will be making the jump to WWE when his contract is up, but it was noted that AEW and MJF aren’t as close to a new deal as they were in the past. While Sapp has heard that contract negotiations have been mentioned to MJF, he isn’t certain if that means an extension or a total renegotiation of his current deal.
