New SmackDown Women’s Champion Crowned At WWE WrestleMania Backlash

Charlotte Flair defended the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey at WWE WrestleMania Backlash.

The two foes clashed in an “I Quit” Match on May 8. Flair defeated Rousey at WrestleMania 38 to retain the gold, but “The Baddest Woman on the Planet” challenged her to a rematch. Their feud has become even more bitter in recent weeks, as the rivals remained determined to embarrass each other.

On Sunday, Rousey brought the fight to the champion. “The Queen” fired back with a German suplex and a stiff big boot. Flair brought a kendo stick into the bout, but she ran away once Rousey got her hands on it. “The Queen” got two sticks and hit Rousey with them. “The Baddest Woman on the Planet” took the weapons and teed off on Flair. The champion threw a camera at Rousey, and the fight spilled into the crowd. Flair slammed Rousey into a barricade and wrenched her in a submission through a steel railing.

Rousey tried to slam Flair into the ring post, but “The Queen” gouged her eyes and sent her into the steel instead. The challenger locked in an arm bar while Flair was hanging upside down from the top rope. Rousey kept wrenching it, but both women went crashing to the floor. Flair blasted Rousey with a chair and hit the Natural Woman. Time and again, both women refused to say “I Quit”, no matter what their opponent threw at them. “The Queen” locked in the Figure-Eight, but Rousey didn’t give up.

Flair told Rousey “Happy Mother’s Day”, but the challenger pulled her in for a cross armbreaker through a chair. “The Queen” initially refused to quit, but Rousey wrenched her arm until Flair said, “I Quit.” As a result, Rousey won the title.
