The undisputed Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion was crowned on the May 4 episode of AEW Dynamite.
On Wednesday night, Deonna Purrazzo, the reigning champion, faced Mercedes Martinez, the interim champion, to determine the true titleholder. Purrazzo won the gold in January, but she was unable to compete at ROH Supercard of Honor. As a result, ROH owner Tony Khan booked a bout for the interim title between Martinez and Willow Nightingale. Martinez emerged victorious, and Khan later booked the Champion vs. Champion match for the May 4 episode.
After a hard-fought contest, Martinez scored the victory with a Dragon Sleeper.

Here’s how the match culminated, courtesy of our play-by-play coverage:
Deonna goes for her Fujiwa armbar before hitting a pump kick and gets a near fall. Deonna is frustrated. The fight continues on after both women lariat each other down. They get up at the count of six as Deonna climbs up top, but Mercedes hits a right hand and powerslams her to the canvas. She face stomps Deonna and then locks in the Romero special. Mercedes Martinez gets a Dragon sleeper in on Deonna and she submits.
Purrazzo is currently signed to IMPACT Wrestling; her appearance on Wednesday night marked her AEW debut.
It’s currently unknown when the next ROH show will be, but the company’s titles have frequently been defended on AEW TV.
