Ricky Starks Won’t Call Out Anyone For ‘Forbidden Door’, He’ll Let New Japan Talent Step Up To Him

Ricky Starks says he’s not calling anyone out for the Forbidden Door, they’ll all be lining up for a shot at him.

The new AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view announcement has resulted in countless amounts of fantasy matchup picks and speculation about who will face off at the show. All Elite Wrestling star Ricky Starks is the latest to comment on the situation and notes that he’s not calling his shot on anyone, but he’d rather let everyone else step up to him.

“Regarding the Forbidden Door PPV: There is no wrestler I want to call out… Wrestlers in NJPW will all gather & shout, ‘I want to wrestle Ricky Starks!’ and ‘I want to fight Team Taz!’ It won’t take long before it does,” Starks wrote.

Starks says he’s not calling anyone out himself, which is a (remarkably) similar approach that Tetsuya Naito is taking to the situation. During a recent interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Naito made it clear that he’ll wait for someone to step up to him first.

“There is no wrestler I want to call out,” Naito said through a translator. “The reason is simple. Wrestlers in AEW will all gather and shout, ‘I want to wrestle Tetsuya Naito!’ and ‘I want to fight Los Ingobernables de Japon!’ It isn’t hard to see this happening. It won’t take long before it does.”

Starks’ statement is eerily similar to Naito’s… did Starks cryptically call his shot, and could we see them square off at Forbidden Door?
