Kevin Owens On Facing Steve Austin: It’s All Downhill From Here, I Mean That In A Good Way

Kevin Owens knows that it might not get much better than facing off with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin at WrestleMania 38, and he says that with a lot of optimism.

During an appearance on WWE After The Bell with Corey Graves, Kevin Owens spoke about facing Austin at this year’s WrestleMania and what it meant to him. Owens has long-maintained that Austin is his favorite wrestler of all time, and now says that he doesn’t know what could ever top this moment.

“Well it’s all downhill from here, really. And I say that with the most like optimistic point of view I can have, really. I mean that in a good way. It was really unbelievable. It’s still unbelievable,” Owens said. “Sometimes I’ll have my moments where I’m not doing anything, you know, I’m just kinda sitting around and I’ll just pull it up on my phone and I’ll specifically watch the moment where the ref rings the bell and I still can’t believe it happened. It’s really hard to process what happened, honestly. It’s hard to put into words.”

Graves said that he felt the same way when Owens fought Mr. McMahon a few years ago, so it’s still possible that something else comes along to top it. Owens went through a few moments in his career that were the best at the time, but still isn’t sure working with Austin could ever be beaten.

“I don’t know what tops this. What can top it? Like you tell me, if you can figure one out,” Owens said. “Yesterday I was having this reflection and I’m like man, it just keeps getting crazier and I don’t know man, the point I’m trying to make, you asked how I felt then, it’s the same I feel now. I was in disbelief and I’m really just so grateful.”

Later in the show, Owens did say if he was speaking things into existence, he had a challenge for Matthew McConaughey at WrestleMania 39. Read more about his limited interactions with the actor at this link.
