Buff Bagwell Claims He’s The Only Wrestler WWE Ever Turned Down For Rehab

WWE has sent several former wrestlers to rehab over the years, but Buff Bagwell isn’t one of them.

Buff Bagwell was a guest on Busted Open Radio this morning with Dave LeGreca and Tommy Dreamer. When asked about how he’s doing in his life right now, Bagwell said he couldn’t have written it any better and spoke on the fact that he is the only wrestler in history that WWE has turned down for rehab.

“I couldn’t have wrote it any better. I couldn’t have asked God sitting down like knee to knee with God and say, Hey, here’s what I’m trying to do and show everybody, and we started the podcast with Rebuilding Buff. Because WWE, I’m the only wrestler in the history of time that they turned down for rehab,” Buff Bagwell said. “The only wrestler in the history, bro. Not trying to throw anyone under the bus, but several guys went several times. And I’ve never used them, asked them to do it, and they turned me down. So I said the hell with it. I’m gonna do it myself.”

Buff Bagwell has made this claim previously on other podcasts, including during an appearance on the Who The Fook Are These Guys?! podcast in December 2021. At the time, Bagwell said that he had the unfortunate distinction of being the only one to be turned down by WWE for its Former Talent Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Assistance Program. Bagwell said he felt humiliated by not being accepted, added that he wanted to show people he could put the work in and get better.

According to WWE’s corporate site, the Former Talent Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Assistance Program is “potentially available to: (i) former WWE Superstars with a prior WWE booking contract; or (ii) former referees with a prior WWE referee contract.” The site also notes that WWE will consider helping former talent on a “case by case basis whether to pay for rehabilitation services at a qualified treatment center.”

WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page has since helped Bagwell with the rehab process in getting the help he needs. Bagwell is currently living at the Accountability Crib with DDP, much like Scott Hall and Jake “The Snake” Roberts have in the past.
