The Briscoes Reflect On NWA Crockett Cup Victory: ‘It Means A Lot To Us’

The Briscoes added their name to a prestigious group when they won the NWA Crockett Cup on March 20, and the significance of this accolade isn’t lost on them.

The reigning Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champions defeated The Commonwealth Connection (Harry Smith and Doug Williams) in the finals. In doing so, their names are now on the list of tournament winners, which also includes The Road Warriors and The Super Powers (Nikita Koloff and Dusty Rhodes)[9], the duo of Sting and Lex Luger, and Villain Enterprises (PCO and Brody King).

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, the brothers discussed this monumental victory; they made it clear that the milestone means a lot to them.

“Legends have won the Crockett Cup,” Mark Briscoe said. “You win the Crockett Cup; it means something. It’s like a NASCAR driver winning Daytona. We are tag team wrestlers, and this is our life, so it means a lot to us.”

Likewise, Jay pointed to the list of previous winners and stated that it’s “big” to be placed in the same class.

“Look at who’s won in the past,” Jay Briscoe said. “Those are icons. So to have our names in the same group as those guys, that’s big.”

Speaking of the previous winners, The Briscoes particularly emphasized their connection with The Road Warriors. Mark described how they were influenced by the WWE Hall of Famers, and Jay elaborated by noting

“When you saw the Road Warriors, you knew you were going to see an ass-kicking,” Jay said. “They stood out; they were unique. Our goal is to bring that same type of uniqueness.”

Fresh off their tournament victory, The Briscoes fully intend to challenge La Rebelión (Bestia 666 and Mecha Wolf 450) for the NWA World Tag Team Championship in order to add another title to their collection.

“All we do is win titles,” Mark says. “Dem Boys are steamrolling, and we’re coming for those belts.”

For now, Mark and Jay will also focus on defending the titles they already have; they’ll put the ROH World Tag Team Championship on the line against FTR at ROH Supercard of Honor on April 1.
