The Undertaker Has ‘Always Been Fascinated With Death,’ Recalls Taking Naps In Caskets Backstage In WWE

The Undertaker, unsurprisingly enough, is a big fan of death.

Upcoming 2022 WWE Hall of Fame headliner The Undertaker recently appeared on Out Of Character with Ryan Satin and delved into his infatuation with death, which started well before ‘The Deadman’ became a reality in WWE.

“I was always fascinated with death. There was a time where I had family members that actually worked in a funeral home, so I was around caskets and I was in embalming rooms and little did I know, at that point, where my career and my future was gonna go but it’s funny how things work out,” he explained. “The Undertaker is a lot of things blown up to the hundred degree for sure. It’s nuts, it’s crazy how things work out but I remember, as a little kid, they were gonna have a service and they had already brought in the casket and the deceased was in the casket but the service wasn’t gonna start for another couple hours so there was nobody in the chapel and my little morbid self decided I wanted to go up and see up close. So, I worked my courage up and I worked myself all the way up to this casket and peaked in and could’ve swore that the corpse inside moved and I took off like a scolded rabbit. But it’s just funny, it’s funny what I guess life prepares you for.

“I really don’t talk about that, that often, it doesn’t normally come up,” he noted, “but it’s kind of ironic once I start thinking about the things that were placed in my life, later on in life, once I started doing this and became The Undertaker. We had some long, arduous days of TV production and there were a few times where you’d have hours where you just didn’t do anything and on more than one occasion I may have pulled out a casket and took a little nap in there. I didn’t think anything about it, it was just cold and whatever. I had some pretty big opponents early on, so I had some really big caskets that they had around. So, they served a dual purpose at times.”
