Tony Khan Calls Jeff Hardy A ‘Transcendent Wrestler’, Says Signing Him Is ‘A Really Big Deal’

Jeff Hardy has officially joined his brother Matt in All Elite Wrestling, as the former WWE Champion debuted on AEW Dynamite on Wednesday night.

The reunion thrilled many fans, as the wrestling world awaits the duo’s inevitable on-screen return to the ring. Matt and Jeff will compete at several independent wrestling shows, but it’s only a matter of time before they team up inside an AEW rin.

During an appearance on Busted Open, AEW President Tony Khan spoke highly of Jeff by calling him a “transcendent wrestler” who can teach some of the company’s younger stars a lot, given his lengthy career in the business. He also referenced the number of fresh matchups that are now possible, as many AEW wrestlers have never worked with Jeff before.

“I think Jeff is a transcendent wrestler,” said Khan. “And it’s amazing because you know Jeff has been pro wrestling now for literally decades. I do think he transcends age and experience in many ways, and I think he’s somebody that a lot of the young wrestlers can learn a lot from, in terms of connecting with the crowd. But I also think he’s just a fresh, exciting matchup for a lot of the young wrestlers here in AEW, not just in tag teams, but also he’s a great singles wrestler.

“He’s a former world champion, so having Jeff Hardy in AEW, it’s gonna be huge for the singles and for the tag teams. And it’s gonna be great for the experienced wrestlers, people he’s been in the ring with, people who have been in the same company as him before, and then you’ve got a whole locker roll worth of people that have never been in the same company as Jeff Hardy that have been dreaming of this moment. So it’s a really big deal.”

As for The Hardy Boyz’ reunion, Khan described how the duo is a strong addition to the company’s loaded tag team division. Khan pointed out how AEW has always spotlighted tag team wrestling, and having an all-time great duo shows that tag team wrestling is thriving in AEW.

“Yeah it’s great,” said Khan. “I mean it’s something that we’ve dreamed about since AEW started. I think we have put an emphasis on tag team wrestling and we have seen some of the great tag teams….There are many other great tag teams in this division, and now you add Matt and Jeff Hardy, one of the greatest tag teams of all time, and it just shows I think tag team wrestling is stronger than ever and particularly in AEW.”

Matt and Jeff will appear Friday night on AEW Rampage; beyond that, fans will have to wait and see what their future in AEW holds.
