Cary Silkin Hopes ROH Finds A ‘Destination’ Home, Says It’ll Be More Cohesive Under Tony Khan’s Ownership

Cary Silkin says he hopes the Ring Of Honor brand lives on as a wrestling promotion with a steady home.

Tony Khan made headlines on March 2 when he announced he purchased Ring Of Honor, but the announcement also led to many questions about the promotion’s future. Cary Silkin, former ROH owner and this year’s Legacy Award recipient, joined Busted Open Radio on Tuesday and shared his hopes for the ROH brand.

Despite airing in syndication on Sinclair-owned networks, Silkin pointed out that ROH never had a “destination” home on television each week. He said that ROH is in a better place than it was a week ago, but hopes Khan will be able to set up the promotion for a steady broadcast home.

“Well, in a perfect world, I would love for Ring Of Honor continue to be a brand and to obtain an hour of television. Even if it’s on YouTube, they always needed a destination,” Silkin said. “Even though Sinclair — when I sold it to them, guys, they had 75 stations. And I’ll never forget when I sold [ROH] to them, Jim Cornette saying, ‘You know what Vince McMahon would do to have these 75 local affiliates?’ Well, at that point, it didn’t mean a damn thing.

“But just to have a destination, maybe a network spot, but once again,” Silkin added, “at least YouTube. I think with Tony Khan behind it, we’re going to see a more cohesive, steady, properly promoted company.”

Silkin then spoke more about what Khan’s purchase means for the ROH tape library and said he’d like to see some of the “current” ROH roster mainstays get a shot in the new-look promotion under Khan’s direction.

“It’s got a place to breathe now and live on. What I would hope Tony would do — and I haven’t spoken to him, nobody has really — you have more than 20 guys on the active roster, maybe it’s more than that [that have competed in ROH and went on to AEW]. Naturally, CM Punk and Bryan Danielson are ROH guys, but between the guys that are there, and I’d love to see him bring in the Briscoes and Jonathan Gresham and Dalton Castle, Matt Taven,” Silkin said, “some of these guys that were sort of synonymous with the last or current era of Ring Of Honor and add that to the mix and I think we could have a hell of a show.”
