Sammy Guevara Says He Suffered A Scratched Cornea On 2/16 Dynamite

Sammy Guevara’s goal of retaining his TNT Championship against Darby Allin was always in sight even if he had some trouble literally keeping it in sight after the match. Guevara and Allin tore the house down in the main event of the 2/16 episode of AEW Dynamite with a memorable title fight for the TNT gold, but both competitors didn’t exit the canvas without their scratches.  Sammy took to social media to reveal that he suffered a scratched cornea during the bout and it took some time for him to open his eyes after the fact.

“Finally able to open my eyes I suffered a scratched cornea on Wednesday,” Sammy stated on Twitter before tipping his cap to his opponent. “All respect to Darby, We came into this company with everything to prove & in 3 years we have shown that we not only belong but we are this place. Every time I’m on your TV I’ll give you a show, I promise.”

The two sure did as fans in attendance were raucously divided on who they cheered for during the fight. It was Guevara who came out victorious against a game Darby, but the match was not without interference. Both Andrade El Idolo and his assistant Jose thwarted Darby’s efforts in securing the title from Sammy as Andrade smacked Darby with Jose’s tablet. That gave Sammy the chance to hit his GTS for the win. Even if Sammy was able to see, he wouldn’t have been able to admire either of his TNT belts as it was Andrade who ran off with them to close the show. Now Guevara is scheduled to defend his belt in short order against Andrade in the 2/25 episode of AEW Rampage.
