Report: AEW Has ‘Working Plan’ To Bring In Former WWE Star, Creative Pitches Already Made

AEW continues to load up its roster, and a new report suggests that another buzzworthy free agent could be joining the ranks of the “All Elite.”

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that several AEW sources have been told that the “working plan” has been to bring in Buddy Matthews, formerly known as Buddy Murphy in WWE. Ross Sapp notes that there have been “growing interest and rumblings” about Murphy potentially working with the company over the last few weeks, with some talent having heard that creative plans have either been pitched or potentially decided for him if he joins.

Since his WWE release in June 2021, Matthews has worked a few dates for MLW, NJPW and PWG, among other promotions. Any concerns regarding his work visa have seemingly been addressed, given the way he continues to work in the United States several months after his time in WWE ended.

WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.
