Tony Khan says his own mistake led to some late moves to get Jay White on AEW TV.
Jay White made his AEW Dynamite debut on Wednesday, a show that hyped some surprise appearances and a major announcement. Khan had promoted one of those things as a big “forbidden door” appearance, but now says he messed up his own definition of the phrase and it led him to locking down Jay White after the announcement was made.
I didn’t secure @JayWhiteNZ until Sunday. I realized after the fact that Friday night I butchered my own definition of Forbidden Door in hyping tonight. I heard the fans’ feedback, & wanted to ensure that tonight was a special #AEWDynamite for all. Thank you everyone who watched!
Khan didn’t say who he had in mind when the original announcement was made last week (or if that person would still show up), but White’s appearance did lead to some positive feedback from viewers. Wednesday’s show also saw the debut of Keith Lee, which you can read about here. Earlier this week, Khan also spoke about meeting expectations with the respective announcements, as well as how he recently applied to trademark the “forbidden door” phrase.
