Tony Khan On AEW’s Newest Signing: It’s ‘Huge’ For Us, It Will Give The Fans A Thrill

Since AEW CEO Tony Khan announced that the company’s newest signing will debut Wednesday night on Dynamite, the wrestling world has been buzzing. Everyone wants to know which top star will join the ranks of the “All Elite.” The newcomer will also compete in a meaningful match upon their arrival, as they’ll have a chance to qualify for the Face of the Revolution ladder match. In doing so, they could potentially rise up the title picture rather quickly.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Khan hyped up the newest member of the AEW roster by calling the acquisition “a huge signing.” He noted that he has played with the meaning of “the Forbidden Door”, which has added even more curiosity about the identity of the talent.

“It’s a huge signing for us,” said Khan. “I have created some debate about what it means to open the ‘Forbidden Door,’ and that’s what we are going to do on this show. The fans are going to get a great night of wrestling, and I hope everyone is surprised—and comes back for the matches this sets up.”

Khan also emphasized his mindset about bringing in talent to produce new, exciting matchups; he’s used this approach to build AEW’s stacked roster, and it will be evident upon the revelation of the newest signing on Wednesday night. Khan went on to point out the company’s depth, as it now has a surplus of wrestlers who can deliver excellent in-ring contests.

“I’m continually looking to improve the roster and bring in new stars and create fresh matchups, and that’s what you’re going to see this Wednesday,” Khan said. “We now have such a strong roster of wrestlers under contract that we can put fresh, exciting matches on Dynamite every Wednesday on TBS and Rampage [every Friday] on TNT.

“It’s going to be a big reveal on Dynamite. It sets up this week’s Rampage and puts a lot of irons in our fire. We have created an environment in AEW where people routinely expect great wrestling matches, and we have the wrestlers to live up to those high expectations.”

Again, Khan encouraged fans to tune in and watch Dynamite on Wednesday; in a nutshell, viewers should come for the exciting surprise and enjoy some “great” wrestling.

“There are going to be some great matches this week on Dynamite,” Khan said. “In addition to that, the element of surprise will give the fans that much more of a thrill.”

Fans won’t have to wait too much longer to learn the identity of the new signing, as AEW Dynamite will air Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST.
