Nia Jax Recalls Stiff Match Against Charlotte Flair: ‘There Was Some Sort Of Miscommunication’

Something was noticeably wrong during Nia Jax ’s match against Charlotte Flair on the August 31, 2021 edition of Monday Night RAW.

Jax competed against Flair on the August 31 episode of RAW, a match that quickly turned heated in a very real way. Jax recently addressed the incident during an appearance on The Sessions with Renée Paquette. The former RAW Women’s Champion explained that somewhere along the way, a “miscommunication” in the ring prompted Flair to start “laying into her. Jax recalled how, in the heat of the moment, she fired right back, and the stiff blow seemingly helped get the match back on track enough so that the two women could finish it.

“Obviously, Charlotte is just an insane competitor,” said Jax. “She puts her all into it and is very passionate. There was a miscommunication, I don’t know where it was, but she started laying into me. It happened a few times during the break in that match, so not a lot of people saw it on TV, but some of the announcers were like, ‘Damn.’

“We were laying into each other, and I’m like, ‘What the heck is going on right now?’ At the point that everyone saw on TV, I was like, ‘Fuck this, you’re laying into me. I don’t know what’s going on,’ so I just gave her a two-piece back that kind of rocked her back into, ‘let’s finish up this match and get sh– together.’ I didn’t know what was going on.”

In hindsight, Jax noted that the moment was “intense” and confusing, and she again blamed the incident on a “miscommunication” before she called Flair a close friend.

It was definitely intense. She is one of my best friends, so I wasn’t sitting there and we were super mad, but there was some sort of miscommunication.”

Jax was released by WWE on November 4 due to “budget cuts.” In the same podcast, she reflected on her release and other aspects of her WWE career.
