Bobby Lashley: Facing Brock Lesnar Was More Than A Match, It Was A Lesson In Endurance

Bobby Lashley finally got the dream match he’s been waiting for when he faced Brock Lesnar at WWE Royal Rumble. But “The All Mighty” didn’t just share the ring with “The Beast Incarnate.” He walked away with the win and Lesnar’s WWE Championship when Roman Reigns cost his rival the bout.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Lashley reflected on this monumental experience by describing how it was more meaningful than a match. He explained that he wanted to show his children that endurance can lead to ultimate victory.

“This was so much deeper than a match,” said Lashley. “My kids were in the front row, and I wanted to teach them a lesson about enduring. That’s something we talk about a lot. It’s the person who endures that wins.

As for the in-ring action, the new champion offered a look at his strategy; he noted that he wanted to take the best Lesnar could hit him with, overcome it and clinch the victory.

“The match was a lot like life,” said Lashley. “I couldn’t escape Brock’s offense. He’s going to take you to Suplex City, he’s going to hit hard. That’s no different than life. I wanted to test myself and take his punches. I wanted to face him head on, take his best, and beat him in the end.”

Moving forward, Lashley turns his attention to his reign as the champion. WWE has already announced that he’ll put the title on the line in an Elimination Chamber match at the premium live event of the same name. Beyond that, “The All Mighty” will hope to compete at his second WrestleMania in a row as the WWE Champion; to do so, he’ll focus on defending the gold by putting in the work.

“We’ll see who steps up,” said Lashley. “Winning the championship was one thing, but defending it is another. Every day, every night, every morning, I’m putting in the work. I’m doing this the only way I know how, and that’s by putting everything into it.”

Time will tell what happens next for WWE Champion Bobby Lashley, but for now, he’s riding high after his triumph at WWE Royal Rumble.
