Report: Riddle Was Originally Set To Win The Men’s Royal Rumble Match

While Brock Lesnar’s Royal Rumble win on Saturday was called predictable by a majority of the WWE Universe, the company initially had a much more unpredictable finish in mind.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the original plan called for Riddle to win the Men’s Royal Rumble match. Johnson states that plans were changed “a ton of times” during the week before settling on the end result of Lesnar’s victor. Other pitches for the winner also included Randy Orton at one point, but Riddle was the front-runner the entire time before the decision was made to go with Lesnar.

While this isn’t necessarily confirmed, this might help paint a picture about what WWE‘s plans are for Bobby Lashley on the road to WrestleMania. At this time, it’s unknown who will challenge “The All Mighty” for the title at WrestleMania. Orton and or Riddle could potentially be in the mix, based on this report.

Fans will probably find out sooner rather than later, as Lashley is currently scheduled to defend the WWE Championship next month inside the Elimination Chamber on February 19 in Saudi Arabia.
