AJ Styles: I ‘Would Love To’ Face Edge, I’m Currently Focused On Winning The Royal Rumble

WWE has delivered plenty of dream matches over the years, but one first-time bout is still on the table; many fans are still waiting see AJ Styles face Edge at some point soon.

“The Phenomenal One” rose to fame with TNA/IMPACT Wrestling during Edge’s prime, so their paths never crossed before Styles signed with WWE in 2016. But at this point, Edge had been retired for a few years due to his neck injury. When “The Rated-R Superstar” returned in the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble and dropped Styles with a Spear, the WWE Universe immediately wondered whether this dream bout was on the horizon. Instead, the two stars haven’t faced off throughout Edge’s return to action.

In an interview with Kevin Kellam of Sportskeeda Wrestling, Styles made it clear that he wants to face the WWE Hall of Famer. That being said, he doesn’t know whether he’ll get the chance to do so.

“Well, they’re not the only one,” said Styles. “I would love to be in the ring with Edge. Will it happen? I don’t know. We’ll find out together.”

For now, Styles remains focused on winning the Royal Rumble match. He’s practically done it all in WWE, but he has been unable to clinch the prestigious Royal Rumble victory.

“I need to,” said Styles. “I’ve achieved so much, but I have not won the Royal Rumble. I wanna win it, I wanna go to the end. I wanna be the last man standing because at then at least I can say I’ve done it.”

Styles will compete in the Men’s Royal Rumble match on Saturday; he’ll have to outlast 29 other competitors to win the bout. If he does, he’ll punch his own ticket to WrestleMania and cement his status as one of the greatest stars on the WWE roster.
