The Rock Teases New Video Game Film Adaptation Of ‘One Of The Biggest, Most Badass Games’

The Rock looks to take aim at yet another video game film adaptation.

WWE legend Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson recently spoke with Men’s Journal to promote his new Black Adam film. During the conversation, the future Hall of Famer teased an announcement for a new film based on a popular video game franchise. While he didn’t share what that title was, Johnson did say that it’s a huge game that he’s played for years.

”I’ve always been a big Madden fan. I can’t tell you which game in particular we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year. We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen—one that I’ve played for years. I’m really excited to bring it to fans around the world. Of course we’re going to do right by our gamer friends—but really we’re just going to make a great movie.”

If/when it comes to fruition, the untitled video game project would be Johnson’s third gaming-based film, as he was featured in 2005’s DOOM and later starred in 2018’s Rampage. While they weren’t direct adaptations from a video game property, Johnson starred in 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and its 2019 sequel.

In addition to the video game movie teaser, Johnson also spoke about training for Black Adam and shared how he’s been around weight rooms and training his whole life, noting the influence his father and other wrestlers had on his work ethic.

“I grew up going to the gym with my dad. When I was five years old, he’d let me watch him work out. When I was 12, I picked up my first weight. After that he’d take me on the wrestling mats and just beat the shit out of me. Back then, when I was going to the gym with my old man, I was around some of the biggest and baddest guys in the world. That includes my dad, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, Tony Atlas, The Road Warriors. These dudes would come into the gym and turn that motherfucker out. They didn’t care who was around, or what was going on around them. Their focus was so intense. So training and training hard is in my blood. It’s in my DNA.”

Black Adam is set for release on July 29, 2022.
