Mick Foley is happy to just see Matt Cardona flourish outside of WWE.
WWE Hall of Famer and hardcore legend Mick Foley took to social media to comment on Matt Cardona sporting his [Foley’s] famous flannel vest during his match against Joey Janela at The WRLD on GCW on Sunday night. Cardona took things a step further than paying tribute to Foley’s tartan vest, writing “F-ck Mick Foley” on the back of it.
Foley says Cardona took a shot at him on Sunday, but in all honesty, he was… happy for his fellow Long Island native.
“Hello everyone, it’s Mick Foley, the hardcore legend addressing the Matt Cardona situation. Matt took a shot at Miss Foley’s baby boy last night with an interesting choice of ring attire and while I appreciate the GCW fans flipping him off on my behalf and while I appreciate my friend, The Savage Gentleman, who’s wedding I officiated, that’s real, wanted to do battle with him on my behalf, the truth is, from a personal standpoint, I was happy for him.
“It made me laugh because I feel Matt was done wrong in WWE, he reached for that brass ring and then was asked to return it. Ultimately, everyone that leaves a major promotion has a choice to make when they go to the independent scene. That choice is A, do I do the same things I did, the things I was known for? Or do I reinvent myself, I call that the Drew McIntyre route, the road less traveled. That’s what Matt Cardona has done, he’s completely reinvented himself and I’m doing so, he has become one of the most enjoyable and valuable assets on the wrestling scene and knowing I’m playing just a small, a tiny part, makes me happy. In conclusion, f-ck Matt Cardona.”
Cardona, who also wore Mikey Wripwreck-themed trunks in addition to the Foley vest, defeated Janela at the pay-per-view and was subsequently attacked be another WWE Hall of Famer in Sean ‘X-Pac’ Waltman after the match. Check out full results from the event at this link.
