Cody Rhodes finds himself in an interesting position at the moment.
According to a new report from Fightful Select, Cody Rhodes is currently working for All Elite Wrestling without a contract. It was explained that Rhodes’ most recent contract expired at the end of 2021, and he’s been working without one ever since then. According to the report, several sources in AEW said that Cody’s status was known for several weeks. It was also noted that Cody and AEW were asked for comment on the situation; Cody has not responded as of press time and AEW officials said that they would not discuss the contract status of talent.
It’s worth noting that during a recent interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Rhodes said that he didn’t plan on going anywhere but offered an interesting answer about his future.
“As of now, my future is with AEW,” said Rhodes. “AEW would be very strange without the core members of the revolution. We all still talk. We all have this admiration for each other. I can’t see myself anywhere else, and I’m very optimistic about what the future holds.”
Rhodes also told Sports Illustrated that he does still have many “data-based goals” in AEW and hoped the company would become destination programming. Rhodes is the current AEW TNT Champion (his third reign overall) and last defended his title against Ethan Page at New Year’s Smash on December 29.
