Eric Bischoff Explains How His WWE RAW Return On December 27 Came Together

Eric Bischoff explains how his latest WWE appearance came to pass.

The latest episode of AdFreeShows’ 83 Weeks saw Eric Bischoff detail how he got the call for his return as the wedding official on the December 27 episode of WWE RAW. Eric spoke about welcoming his first grandchild, Waylon, during his holiday break, then shared how Bruce Prichard called him a few days before Christmas and pitched the idea. Eric prefaced by saying that he and Bruce don’t talk that much and thought he was just calling to wish him a Merry Christmas, then knew right away that Bruce was going to pitch him something.

“So he called me and I saw [on the caller ID] it was Bruce Prichard, it’s a couple of days before Christmas and I’m thinking, ‘Oh he’s calling to wish me a Merry Christmas.’ I answer the phone and he says, ‘Hey Eric! So…’ and I knew as soon as he said ‘so’, I knew by the tone of it that something was coming. He says, ‘So, you think you could make TV Monday?’

Bischoff explained that this was on Thursday afternoon and he asked where the taping was at because he was in Florida and a West Coast trip would have been out of the question. Bruce told Eric that he was needed in Detroit, so he agreed to make the trip.

“I said, ‘What is it?’ He goes, ‘Well,’ — and you know how Bruce talks — ‘why don’t you get a really light colored pastel suit and expect it to get trashed. There’s going to be a wedding.’ That’s all he told me, no details. Not who, nothing. Just go get a suit, because I didn’t bring a suit with me to Florida, right? It’s Christmas, what the f-ck do I need a suit with me for? So now I need to go find a suit before Christmas Eve on Thursday, that was fun.” [laughs]

Eric went on to explain how he arrived at RAW on Monday and knew that he probably wouldn’t see Bruce until late in the day due to how busy they always were, but he was surprised to learn that Bruce, Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn were all absent from the show that week.

Eric was on the receiving end of a Brood Bath from Edge during the segment. He went on to share how much fun he had working with The Miz and Maryse, noting that they are both really good at what they do as performers.
