AEW rang in the new year, and a new era, with the January 5 episode of AEW Dynamite. In a thrilling main event, Jurassic Express won the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
The Lucha Brothers (Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero M0 defended the titles against Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus. In a battle between two “elite” teams, both duos gave it their all. From eye-opening Destroyers to stunning dives, all four men wrestled their hearts out. The momentum permanently flipped in the challengers’ favor when Luchasaurus slammed Fenix through a table near the end of the match. Fenix landed quite badly on his arm, and it was apparent that he suffered an injury upon impact. He was a non-factor for the rest of the bout.

In the end, Jungle Boy got the pin to win the first title of his career with Tony Khan’s promotion.

After the match, the company’s tag team division came to the stage to tease its future, and other stars who were seated in the crowd, like Malakai Black, teased their intentions to challenge the champions.
