Matt Hardy: Jeff Hardy Will Share His Story Regarding His WWE Release When He’s Ready

Matt Hardy says his brother Jeff Hardy will comment on his final days in WWE when he’s ready, and hopefully, it will give people the answers they are looking for.

Matt Hardy’s latest Twitch stream saw him address his brother Jeff Hardy’s WWE departure and the speculation regarding the move. Matt started by commenting on his recent remark about waiting until all of the facts were presented before making a judgment, adding that he’d planned on saying that before things even unfolded the way they did last week. He said it was in reference to a very general statement, then said people associated that with Jeff’s situation and it does apply.

“For the people who were worried about Jeff, who were concerned about Jeff, I’m here to tell you he is good and there is no reason to be worried or concerned about him. I’m going to say this, and I’m going to preach here for a second — in 2003 when my brother was first released from the WWE, I was worried about him then. He was in a very dark place, we were still young, this stuff was all kind of new to us. I was very legitimately worried and concerned for my brother then. And then it took him a couple years but he got through that stage and then, later on, there were obviously points in time where Jeff and myself had issues, because our bodies were so beat up, with pills and whatnot,” Matt explained, “and we both got past that. Jeff does not have any kind of issue with that, I do not, will not, I never will.

“And then in 2019 there was a time when there was so much drama going on and Jeff had his issues with alcohol, which are very well documented, and then WWE ended up having him go to rehab at that point. After he got through that, it was a very good experience for him, and he learned so much and I could communicate with him a lot better because I had also experienced that same type of deal. We had that in common and we could talk about it,” Matt said. “And also, our relationship was strained then, because myself and my wife were doing all that we could to hold Jeff and his family accountable because we were concerned about him over his behavior. I was concerned about Jeff then, but for the last year and a half, couple years, Jeff has been the best version of himself that I have ever seen.

Reby pointed out that a commenter on the stream mentioned WWE making a storyline out of Jeff’s issues [the feud with Sheamus], and Matt said he’s been adamant about it being a terrible take. He noted that Jeff’s addiction problems are well-documented and the company went back to it multiple times, and that’s the last thing an addict in recovery needs to hear.

“So what I am saying is that Jeff is in the best place I’ve seen him in a very long time. As far as the details of what went down on that evening and that match on that night, I’ve talked to Jeff, I feel good about everything he said and that’s Jeff’s story to share, I’m sure he will when he’s ready to. Actually, he told me he will when he’s ready to, but before anyone rushes to judgment, obviously they drug-tested him after that— wait until you hear the results of that and when that comes back clean, then hopefully people will feel better about it. I feel very good about Jeff, I feel confident about Jeff and WWE, I understand their stance too. They feel like they were backed into a corner because of his history and even though they may have jumped the gun with this a little bit,” Matt pointed out, “they made a decision and it is what it is. Jeff did say he wasn’t going to go to rehabilitation because he didn’t feel he needed to, and I don’t think he did either, and that’s the honest to God’s truth. That is where that lies.”

Matt went on to say that WWE is a great company and he wouldn’t have the life he did without them, but it could also be a challenging place to work and it wears on you mentally. Matt said his family has clamped down and tried to help Jeff, and his sons really love him, and Matt closed by saying he feels like Jeff Hardy is at a good place and he’ll be fine.
