James Michael Guffey, also known as Jimmy Rave, has passed away at the age of 39.
Bill Behrens shared the news through PWInsider.
Rave’s wrestling career spanned over two decades, and he had prominent runs in Total Non-Stop Action Wrestling (TNA) and Ring of Honor. In TNA, he was remembered for his “Rock and Rave Infection” with Lance Rock, now known as Lance Archer. Rave starred in ROH as a member of The Embassy and, later, with the S.C.U.M. faction. He won the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship twice, and he spent time overseas with Japan; he toured with Dragon Gate Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Rave also made an appearance on WWE Sunday Night Heat in 2005. Otherwise, he wrestled all over the independent scene for promotions like Rampage Pro Wrestling, where he also worked as the booker, and Combat Zone Wrestling.
Behrens noted that, for several years Guffey had been battling drug addiction, which led to the amputation of his arm and his legs. He was also the Director of the Bartow County, Georgia Peer Support, Wellness and Respite Center.
WrestleZone sends its condolences to Guffey’s family during this difficult time.
