Xia Li: My WWE SmackDown Vignettes Were Based On My Real Life, ‘They Did An Amazing Job’

Xia Li has finally arrived on WWE SmackDown.

The blue brand drafted the former NXT star, and vignettes over the next several weeks hyped up her eventual debut. These videos widely received a positive response because they featured a distinct style that was patterned after a comic book. Evidently, these vignettes were extra special because the story within is based on Xia Li’s real life

In an interview with Graham GSM Matthews of Daily DDT, Li stated that her true story is told in these videos, and she described how she was happy to see it air on WWE TV. She also explained how she dreamed of being a superhero when she was a kid, and this character is somewhat making that a reality.

“They asked about my background and about my family, so I told them my story,” said Li. “That vignette is a real story about my real life. I’m really happy they put my real story on TV and there’s a lot of feeling there. When they [aired] it, I cried. If I have that feeling, they will have that same feeling. Also, I had a dream, like a superhero dream, when I was a child, so this is kind of my dream come true with a superhero dream on TV. I’m very happy that they have this whole package for me and they did an amazing job.”

Li went on to say that she was surprised by the way WWE handled her debut, and she appreciated the “amazing job” the company did.

“I’m surprised they did this whole package for me,” said Li. “I didn’t know. I found out at the same time as you. When it came up, I’m sitting in the back like, ‘Oh my god, so good!’ They did an amazing job. I really appreciate that.”

One of these vignettes can be seen below:

In her SmackDown debut on the December 10 episode, Li saved Naomi from a beatdown at the hands of Sonya Deville, Shayna Baszler and Natalya.
