Adam Cole Explains Perfecting The Timing Of The ‘Boom’ While Creating His AEW Theme Song

You know it’s all about the BOOM…Adam Cole bay bay!

Adam Cole was a recent guest on Rasslin’ with Brandon F. Walker to discuss his time in All Elite Wrestling. When asked about his insanely popular entrance theme, “It’s All About The Boom,” Cole dives into the backstory on how the song came about.

“There is such a big backstory with this that I don’t think I’ve talked about yet, but I did talk extensively, and by extensively, I mean over a few day period because that whole process before I ended up showing up at All Out was actually a lot shorter than people realize,” Adam Cole said. “But I had talked to Mikey Rukus, the guy responsible for making the song, and I explained to him, ‘Hey man, so I want the song to have a Rage Against the Machine vibe. And then also I came out to the song called ‘Something For You’ in Ring of Honor, which was a song that a lot of people really liked, and I love the baseline and the drums how heavy the drums are in that song. So I said if there’s a way that we could get that in there as well, that would be incredible.’

“So, of course, Rukus, like the genius he is, comes up with this song that is just incredible. I remember being unsure if I wanted lyrics in the song because forever I had used — I mean, at least for my four-year period in NXT, there were barely any lyrics in the Shock the System song. So I’d become accustomed to that. And then when I heard his lyrics, I’m like, ‘Oh my god, this is perfect, actually.’ And then, if a lot of people may not remember this, but in the beginning, like the first few weeks, I actually did not have a cue for the boom in the song. Because I remember not being sure, and this was on me. This wasn’t on him.

“I remember not being sure if I wanted that cue and thinking like, oh, maybe I’ll just come out to the song and where however long the ramp is, whatever the situation is, I can get up and do it whenever and they’ll do it with me. But the fans had made it very, very clear that they wanted a point for that in the song, so then we put it in there, and it was perfect. But man, he just absolutely knocked it out of the park and the beginning. What else really helps too, and because I noticed this about wrestling is the fact that, again, the fans have been so excellent. It automatically makes the song more exciting. Like if you hear a song combined with a massive crowd reaction, it automatically is like, oh, this song is sick because it takes you to that place. But then, on top of that, if you’ve listened to the song by itself, it is a really, really cool song. So just shout out to Mikey Rukus for doing an excellent job.”

When talking about the timing of the “boom” in the entrance theme, Adam Cole revealed that there initially wasn’t a cue in the song for it, but that was his choice. Admitting they perfected it a few weeks later after his debut, Cole believes missing the actual “boom” cue would be embarrassing:

“I mean, at the very beginning, I think people thought when there wasn’t a cue in the song for the boom, I think people thought I had messed it up,” Adam Cole said. “There was just no cue; it was just in my head. I’m like, okay, I’ll do it whenever I want to, but because there is the boom in the song. I think people thought that I was gonna actually hit it on that portion. So we perfected it after a couple of weeks. But yeah, that would be embarrassing.”
