Nick Aldis looks to the past to plan a possible move in the future.
During a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, Nick Aldis pondered what is next for him in professional wrestling, which includes getting the “Ten Pounds Of Gold” back. Additionally, he also said he’s talked to Doug Williams about a possible reunion of the British Invasion, the stable he was part of in TNA Wrestling.
“Once you’ve had the big belt, you know, in any promotion, it’s like a drug. I mean it’s only a matter of time before your thoughts are all sort of funneling towards that goal again, you know. But to answer your question truthfully, I don’t know what’s next. I’m very confident in my market value and who I am and what I bring to the table, and I’m also very blessed to have what I consider to be a very good, strong, solid fan base who are sort of supportive of me and I have their trust. And that means the world to me, you know, as a professional wrestler, to have the trust of the fans, to know that when my name is attached to something, you get quality. And that’s what I intend to do for the rest of my career. Now of that means going back after the Ten Pounds of Gold, so be it, but we’ll figure out what’s next.
“[I] will say this, I lobbied very hard for Doug Williams, the ambassador of British wrestling and my former British Invasion tag team partner, one of the greatest British professional wrestlers of all time and certainly the greatest of his generation. If an opportunity comes up for a little mini British Invasion reunion, that would be a real thrill for me. So I’m throwing it out there, Doug, and I’m throwing it out there to Billy [Corgan] and the wrestling community because even after all these years, people still bring up the British Invasion. To me, I’ve always loved tag team wrestling, and as much as I take pride in what I’ve done with the NWA as the sort of flagbearer for the promotion, I also appreciate sort of the historical context of tag team wrestling as it pertains to the NWA, so it would be cool to be able to maybe have a stab at sort of contributing to that tapestry in the modern era as well.”
Aldis also said that he’s open to anything from a business perspective, as far as the “forbidden door” talk that has dominated the wrestling landscape this year.
“I’m absolutely open to anything, if it makes sense on a business level. Look I wanna test myself against the best guys. And I believe myself to be up there in that conversation. So anything is possible and I’d like to make it very well-understood that I’m very open to any of that.”
