WWE will not have a live episode of SmackDown after December 17 until January 7, leaving a two week gap where fans wondered what the plan would be.
According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, WWE plans on filming 2 episodes of SmackDown in Chicago on December 17. The first will be live and the second will be recorded for airing on December 24.
As for the December 31 SmackDown, originally the plan was to film a live episode in Charlotte, North Carolina. That idea has been thrown out by Nick Khan, Vince McMahon, and Kevin Dunn. The plan now calls for WWE to air a special “Year In Review” show as the episode will air on FS1 and not FOX due to the annual New Year’s Eve show.
December 31 is going to be an action packed night for TV as the NCAA College Football semi-final bowl games air that night.
WWE Holiday Schedule:
- December 17 – LIVE show in Chicago, IL
- December 24 – Pre-recorded show from Chicago, IL
- December 31 – ‘Year In Review’ special
- January 7 – LIVE show in Uncasville, CT
