WWE will officially cease sales of their DVDs and Blu-rays in the United States beginning next year, according to a recent report from Wrestling DVD Network.
The report notes that the last physical media release for the company will be the Survivor Series 2021 DVD, which is set to release on December 28. A home video release on Drew McIntyre is also planned to drop on December 14, but after that, it seems that WWE will fully commit to an all-digital library of content going forward.
For fans outside of the United States, Wrestling DVD Network notes that fans in Australia and Canada may also no longer see physical releases, and those in the U.K. will still see planned releases for Day One and Royal Rumble, although it’s unknown what will happen following March. While the news is a bit shocking, it doesn’t come as a huge surprise. WWE has been moving most of its content over to a digital landscape for some time now, with the WWE Network housing most of its entire history as a company already.
WWE had been releasing home video content dating back to 1985, when the company started producing VHS tapes. Their first DVD release, focusing on Stone Cold Steve Austin and WrestleMania 15, was released in 1999.
