A pair of former Paul Heyman favorites put on quite a show this past weekend at WrestleCade.
Former WWE stars Buddy Matthews (FKA Buddy Murphy) and Malakai Black (FKA Aleister Black) wrestled in the main event of WrestleCade 2021 on Sunday, a match in which saw AEW star Malakai Black defeat the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion.
It’s known to many that both Matthews and Black were massive favorites of WWE manager/producer Paul Heyman, who advocated heavily for both men to be pushed further when he was in charge of Monday Night RAW, however, neither really came to fruition. Heyman moved over to SmackDown in a managerial role for current Universal Champion Roman Reigns and both Matthews and Black were ultimately released from the company.
Following the aforementioned WrestleCade event, Matthews took to Twitter to say that Heyman should be proud of where he and Black have come in their post-WWE careers.
Heyman would respond to the tweet, saying he’ll never let ‘promotional boundaries’ dictate who he admires in and out of the ring.
“Great talent will always find a way to showcase their abilities. I am, indeed, quite proud, and never let “promotional boundaries” limit that and those who inspire my admiration,” Heyman wrote.
