This week’s episode of Fear The Walking Dead pays homage to the one true sport.
The fifth episode of Fear The Walking Dead‘s seventh season, “Till Death,” saw Sherry (Christine Evangelista) and Dwight (Austin Amelio) tracking down a woman named Mickey (Aisha Tyler), who revealed she had a notable pro wrestling background prior to the apocalypse. The show offered plenty of references to pro wrestling due to Mickey’s search for her tag team partner and husband, Cliff, who worked as a tag team in Texas called “Dearly Beloved.” The team also had a finishing move called “Til Death Do Us Part” and prior to the apocalypse, had plans to open a wrestling gym/training school called the “Grapple Chapel Wrestling Club,” really highlighting the matrimonial gimmick.
The “highlight” of the episode sees our heroes involved a battle royal with a horde of zombies set to Damian Marley’s “Welcome to Jamrock.” The sequence is a bit laughable at times (including when Mickey hit a zombie with a piledriver to kill it), but it’s a lighter moment in a dramatic series, as well as a fun exchange that will pop wrestling fans.
