Beth Phoenix released her debut EP, Stone Rose and Bone, and in a recent interview with Slam Wrestling, Phoenix spoke about the EP and what it means to her.
“The pandemic brought a lot of things into perspective… [It] helped me get a lot of grief out, to put these feelings into these songs,” Phoenix said when asked about the inspiration for her EP and what spurred it on. Made in conjunction with WWE’s music group, the debut EP is four songs, each with its own flavor.
The single from the EP, “Find Your Why,” was recently revealed during an episode of WWE’s The Bump, and features a more gospel sound than perhaps some were expecting. Phoenix said that other songs on the EP are “more fun” though, and explained that the name of the EP reveals a bit more about herself.
“The continuity is that there’s a little bit of me in all four songs,” Phoenix said. “Part of me is hard and tough and then ‘rose’ part of me is soft and fragile, and then ‘bone’ is what makes all of us up – humanity,” she said.
Phoenix also went on to talk about the response she has received so far has not only been great from the fans, but how surprising the reaction from those in the world of business has been as well.
“Not only wrestling fans, but our peers – my friends I’ve made in the business, from all companies across the board, I appreciated all the support… So many friends and peers came out to say we’re so happy for you,” Phoenix said.
For fans that may dive into the EP, Phoenix hopes that they take away one thing, and that’s not to give up on the things that you may want in life.
“If they take any message from this at all, it’s don’t give up on things that you love or things that are part of you… once you put art into the world, how it’s received it’s not your business,” she said.
