The Insane Clown Posse have a lot of fond memories of their time in WCW.
Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J of the Insane Clown Posse were the latest guests on After the Bell with Corey Graves to talk about a variety of subjects. When speaking on their time in WCW, they said they had a blast because while they had heat in WWE, there was nothing of the sort in WCW:
Violent J: “It was so cool. We ended up doing ‘Nitro’ but it was so cool when we got to WCW, man. We met Vampiro and everything was so cool with Vampiro. I guess we had a lot of heat in WWE. None of those boys knew that we were workers; they just thought that were some rappers that got thrown in there and were trying to wrestle,” Violent J said. “We definitely didn’t get treated like one of the boys, but I’m sure we probably could have got it a lot harder. But in WCW everything was really cool, in WCW we had a great time. We started hanging out with Vampiro, and we just hit it off like crazy, with Vampiro and with Raven. We got to work with [Great] Muta. We got to work with everybody.
“Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio. We got to go right into the matches, there was no problem with it, like they just put us ready to six-man tag competition with Vampiro, we got to be on paper views. I mean, WCW was fun, man. I can’t lie, man.”
Shaggy 2 Dope: “They were sinking when we were there. But we were having a blast.”
Violent J: “We were having so much fun wrestling Three Count and everything. We had a great time in WCW. I can’t lie, man. As awesome as It was to be a part of wrestling again after the success of the band after we had a platinum album, you know, and to be part of wrestling and to debut at [WWF] SummerSlam at Madison Square Garden in all that, it was so f-ckin’ awesome. But after a while, after the fourth month, it became too much, so we had to do what we had to do [and move on].
Shaggy 2 Dope: “To this day, just because we love it so much, we still somehow figure out how to work our way to independents every now and then. We’ll go wherever or whenever and just work a show once a year, something like that. Maybe not get in the ring and work a match, but we’ll work [and be part of it].
The amount of charity work Insane Clown Posse has done over the years often goes unrecognized, but it’s not something they do for fame. They do it because they are in the position to be able to do so and consider that a blessing.
“You’re in a position to make a positive change. Why not take it.” Violent J said. “We’ve had a very blessed career. To look back at it now, and it’s still going full steam ahead right now is the crazy part. The least we could do is show some love in return, man. We know we’ve had a blessed career, and to be able to do this right now and still be out there doing it like this, man. We’re very, very fortunate. Paying back some of that love, that’s the easiest thing we could do. We’re so grateful to be able to have this career and paint our faces like wicked clowns for 30 years now. That’s a blessing, man. We’re happy.”
The Insane Clown Posse recently announced their plans to cease touring. Greg Valentine also talked about working with the duo on their Fuse TV series; read his comments about what he remembers about ICP at this link.
