Kevin Owens was supposed to have another extended run in NXT but as the saying goes… plans changed.
Kevin Owens spoke with talkSPORT and revealed that he was scheduled to have an extended run in NXT after his War Games appearance, but it ultimately got nixed by Vince McMahon.
“Before I did the War Games return, there were concrete plans for me to go back to NXT for an extended period before coming back to the main roster,” Owens said. “At the time Paul Heyman was in charge on RAW and those were just plans we had and Vince [McMahon] had signed off on all of them and, eventually, he changed his mind and nothing happened.
“That’s all it comes down to – what he says goes. It wasn’t something I had just floated about, it was a plan that was going to happen and they just went in a different direction.”
Owens spent a year in NXT when he first arrived in WWE in 2014, and later returned for the one-time appearance in 2019. Owens was revealed as the mystery partner for Tommaso Ciampa’s team in the WarGames match against The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong).
The November 8 episode of WWE RAW saw Owens ultimately turn on Big E to close the show, the start of an apparent heel run. Read more about what happened on RAW at this link.
