Gable Steveson On What Drew Him To WWE, Appearing At SummerSlam, More

Recent WWE signee and Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson appeared as a guest on the After The Bell with Corey Graves to discuss what led him to WWE.

When initially asked by Graves why he chose to come to WWE, Steveson said “They allowed me to go back to school. If I would have signed with UFC or tried to do NFL, I would have to leave an open book with the University of Minnesota that I couldn’t finish. I wanted to go back and win the National Tournament again. I wanted to go back and wrestle in front of my fans because last year we couldn’t because of COVID-19 rules, and the year before that, it got canceled. I wanted to go back and have that last run with everybody seeing me.”

Steveson made an appearance at SummerSlam this year to celebrate winning an Olympic gold medal. Speaking on that appearance, Steveson said “When I came out for SummerSlam and Triple H brought me down from the suite, he said, ‘You’re going to go out and be on stage.’ I was like, this is something as kids I always wanted to do. I wanted to know what it feels like to be in front of 50,000 people on the big screen on the stage. I got out there, and it just felt natural, like normal.”

Fightful Select recently reported that Steveson being drafted to RAW was not a secret backstage and was written on internal run sheets, but there are no immediate plans for his debut.

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer recently reported that there are plans for the gold medalist to debut at WrestleMania in Texas. Dave said, “It was known that the company wants to feature Steveson all year on the show before the idea is of him starting as a regular after the college wrestling season ends in March, with the idea of a WrestleMania debut.”
