Danny Rivera is proud to be a part of the tradition of LAX in professional wrestling because of what the group means for his heritage.
Danny Rivera (aka Danny Limelight) spoke with Jon Alba for the One on One series on AdFreeShows and spoke about his tenure with All Elite Wrestling. Limelight worked for the promotion between October 2020 and June 2021 and he explained how he was positioned as someone the promotion could trust.
“When I was at AEW, I was the go-to guy for big matches on Dark or Elevation. I was in the ring with Kenny Omega. I was in the ring with Jon Moxley. Konosuke Takeshita from DDT Pro. I was in the first-ever Elevation match with Jungle Boy. I was put in very serious matches, big matches, in my opinion. To me, they were big matches. Some people might have thought it was just Dark or Elevation, but to me, I was stepping into the ring with contenders for the championships, I was stepping into the ring with world champions,” he explained, “and I think I got to that point and I was put in those situations because I could deliver at any level with anybody.”
Now, Limelight has moved on to Major League Wrestling where he’s part of the latest incarnation of the LAX stable, 5150, and is billed as Danny Rivera. He talked about how joining the group was an easy decision and what it meant to represent Latinos in a positive light on television.
“When he contacted me for LAX, it was a no-brainer for me. Not only because it was Konnan, and not only because it was LAX, but for the simple fact that what being with Konnan meant, and what being part of LAX meant. And it meant that I could represent for my culture. It meant that I could represent for my flag. It meant that I could show my daughter that her heritage is strong and that we’re on TV in a positive light, and not in a negative light. I feel like growing up back in the day, Latinos were displayed on TV as the bad guys. The villains. The gang members. Stuff like that. So it’s cool seeing us being given the opportunity to just represent Puerto Rico and represent Latin Americans in a positive way to show them that no matter where they come from,” he explained, “no matter what environment they were brought up in, that they can go and achieve whatever their heart desires if they put the work in and they’re passionate about it.”
