The Usos are often viewed as one of the best tag teams of this generation, but Paul Heyman believes the best is yet to come for Jimmy and Jey.
During an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Heyman, who works alongside The Usos as members of The Bloodline, praised the duo by comparing them to several all-time great teams. He noted that the brothers would be great stars on their own, and they also work “incredibly well” as a unit.
“Much like a modern-day, progressive version of the Funk brothers, or Tully [Blanchard] and Arn [Anderson], or Pat [Patterson] and [Ray] Stevens, or even DX, they are individual singles stars that are bigger together than they are separately,” Heyman said. “Jimmy and Jey are two great singles wrestlers that happen to be identical twins. They would be singles stars, but they work incredibly well together as a tag team.”
Heyman likened The Usos’ current standing to that of “The Tribal Chief” himself; he recalled how Roman Reigns was on the threshold of his peak a little over two years ago, and that’s where Jimmy and Jey find themselves now. He argued that the duo is “light-years” better than everyone else, and they’ll grow even more moving forward.
The Usos are exactly where Roman Reigns was two and a half years ago, and that’s at the cusp of entering their prime,” Heyman says. “You have not seen the best of The Usos yet, and they are already light-years ahead of everyone else on the roster and all of sports entertainment.”
“The Special Counsel” kept heaping praise on Jimmy and Jey by describing how they’re “at the top of the entire concept of tag team wrestling” itself. He shared his belief that they’ll bring a new meaning to that same concept.
“Years from now, by the time they wrap up this run, they will be recognized as not just the best tag team of all-time, but as the two men that caused us to redefine the description of the type of match they present,” said Heyman. “Much like I took the term manager and progressed it and evolved it into agent-advocate-special counsel, The Usos are a transformative tag team that are so great we will need to find a different description to describe their matches.”
Jimmy and Jey are currently in their seventh reign as tag team champions in WWE; they continue to reign supreme on WWE SmackDown.
