AEW owner Tony Khan has revealed the first information regarding the companies upcoming TBS Championship tournament, and some fans aren’t going to be happy.
Tony Khan was a guest on today’s episode of Busted Open Radio with Dave LeGreca and Mark Henry to discuss tonight’s episode of Rampage and the last episode of Saturday Night Dynamite for the foreseeable future. When the subject of the TBS title tournament was brought up, Khan revealed some interesting information ahead of Rampage tonight, where the entire bracket will be revealed:
“Yeah, I’m very excited about it too,” Tony Khan began. “Nobody knows the bracket but me. So, I will reveal some details here now on Busted Open before tonight. The rest is going to be a surprise. So it is a 12 woman field, and we’ll announce it tonight. There will be four first-round byes, and I’m really excited about the field. I think when people see it, it really shows the depth that we’ve built in the AEW women’s division, just in the past two years. This TBS title tournament is gonna be great.
“And in addition to that 12 woman field with four first-round byes, the other news I’ll give you today ahead to the bracket reveal on TNT tonight on Rampage is that the tournament will start tomorrow, live on Dynamite. And tonight on Rampage, we’ll announce which match will open the women’s TBS Championship tournament tomorrow live on Dynamite.”
Four first round-byes in a tournament this important doesn’t sound like a great idea. Why not just make it a 16 woman tournament? This will undoubtedly be a hot topic of conversation amongst women’s wrestling fans over the next several days.
