Sean Waltman says he’d love for his return to the squared circle to be in a WWE ring, but he’s still getting other offers for whenever he’s ultimately cleared to compete.
Sean Waltman spoke about his injury status on a recent episode of Pro Wrestling 4 Life and talked about being in great shape, as well as some of the feedback in response to the photo he posted of his progress.
“I’ve leaned out. There’s some comments, you get those [about] ‘oh you’re on the gas, juicing…’ No man. At my biggest, I was 35 pounds heavier than that, I just lost some fat. I’m in better condition,” Waltman noted, “but it’s not like I put on a bunch of muscle mass that I never had before, that’s bullshit.”
After discussing the fact that his post got close to one million impressions on social media, Waltman talked about knowing it would get the type of feedback that it did. Co-host Nick Hausman pointed out that Waltman has done a great job of slowly building anticipation for his eventual return to the ring, and Waltman said that he hasn’t put anything specific out there, but wants to test himself.
“I’m not out there saying, ‘I’m doing this or that…’ Let’s see, let’s see what I got,” Waltman added.
Hausman asked how Waltman’s knee was doing after surgery, which he had in January to repair his ACL, MCL and meniscus. Waltman said he’s doing really well in recovering and wants to be ready to wrestle in January, which would be around the time of the 2022 WWE Royal Rumble.
“It feels pretty good. My last doctor visit, about a month ago or so, he said everything was coming along nicely. I thought I was a little behind because I took a little time off from going to therapy, but he said, ‘No, you’re coming along just fine.’ We’ll see. I go to physical therapy again next week and then we’ll just go from there,” Waltman explained.
“So, just in case, I would like to be ready for Royal Rumble time, but that’s not something that’s like my main goal, to do the Royal Rumble, but if they called me I would do the Royal Rumble. I love WWE, Nick, and regardless of what’s going on,” Waltman noted, “I love it and I would like for them to be the ones to host my return matches. But if not, there’s plenty of other people that will. I’ve already had a lot of people reach out, you know? So, we’ll see, man.”
Waltman has previously named Santos Escobar and MSK as some of the names he’d like to share the ring with, and previously said he’d be open to a potential SummerSlam 2022 match with Sami Zayn.

The combination of ACL, MCL and meniscus injuries is more commonly referred to as the “unhappy triad.” Renee Michelle recently spoke with WrestleZone about coming back from the same injury herself in 2019 ahead of her RAW in-ring debut.
