Ron Funches Calls Out Tony Deppen On ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’ (Video)

Ron Funches isn’t playing around, and he’s got a message for Tony Deppen ahead of their match in Los Angeles.

Ron Funches appeared on Wednesday’s episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden and talked about his ongoing feud with Deppen, a regular in GCW and a former ROH World Television Champion. Corden asked Funches about his pro wrestling debut and why it came to this, and Funches explained how he goes to wrestling shows (Funches has also done commentary for GCW) and does his ‘routine,’ but Deppen isn’t a fan of his jokes.

Funches and Deppen have gone back and forth with each other on social media over the past several months, but Deppen finally took things to the next level after he punched Funches at GCW’s recent “War Games” show. Corden then gave Funches the floor to make a statement about the match, and Funches said he’s taking Tony down… as long as he’s OK with it.

“I’m not good at trash-talking but I’m going to do this — Tony Deppen, you’re going down! You messed with the wrong guy. You think I’m a joke just because I’m a comedian? Well, guess what? I’m going to take you down,” Funches said. “…hopefully with your consent, because that is important to me.” [laughs]

Tony Deppen vs. Ron Funches is part of the lineup at GCW’s “Highest In The Room” in Los Angeles on September 17. That event will also feature an appearance by Minoru Suzuki, who made his in-ring debut on AEW Dynamite on Wednesday. Suzuki has a number of US-based appearances lined up in the next few weeks, including a match with Davey Richards for Glory Pro and at New Japan Showdown in Philadelphia in October.

Funches recently spoke with ComingSoon.net’s Tyler Treese about his role as an announcer in the new film Golden Arm, available on-demand now. The plot centers around women’s arm wrestling, and Funches named a few ladies that he could see excelling in the sport.

“Oh, women with good, big arms that are strong. Piper Niven [now Doudrop] from WWE NXT UK. Charlotte Flair, she’s extremely strong in the arms for sure. She would be great. I think, Awesome Kong who was in AEW and then also in the GLOW show, she’s built very strong up top. I think any of them will be great. I would like to see that. I was going to say Sasha Banks. She probably has stronger arms than she looks. Even though she is a tiny, tiny woman, let’s put her in there. See what she can do.”
