Charlotte Flair: I Don’t Take For Granted All Of The Opportunities, But I Didn’t Come This Far To Come ‘This Far’

Charlotte Flair is going to continue pushing towards greatness, and reaching one peak won’t stop her from looking towards climbing the next one.

Charlotte Flair was a guest on a live SummerSlam edition of Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette in Las Vegas and spoke about how she is finally finding herself as a performer in her mid-30s. Charlotte joked that she’s aging backward and living her 20s now, but said she’s living in the moment and strives to be a better performer because of the fans.

Flair has previously talked about not growing up with aspirations to be a wrestler and didn’t live the lifestyle some fans might speculate she did, also telling Ryan Satin on Out Of Character that she’s not resting on her laurels just because she’s already reached the top of WWE. Speaking now to Paquette, Flair expanded on her past comments about continuing to grow and wanting more, telling her that she’s been slighted in the past because of her name, but she’s not happy just being known as a legacy talent.

“I know I can dwell on the past and wish I had things figured out, but at the same time, I wouldn’t be the performer and the person I am today,” Flair said. “But just everyday, in growing up in front of you guys, I want to be better for you. I know the stigma that comes along with my last name, but one day I want to go down as not ‘Ric Flair’s daughter’ like it says on my graphic, I want to go down as one of the greatest of all time.

“I don’t take for granted all of the opportunities. Yes, I’ve main evented WrestleMania, I’ve main evented RAW, I’ve main evented SmackDown, but to me,” she explained, “I didn’t come this far to come this far. When I came back after WrestleMania and I came up with ‘The Opportunity’ promo, I’m like, ‘Oh no, I’m here to stay. I want more.’ The men want more, why can’t the women?”

The graphic Charlotte referred to was a snub that took place on the March 27, 2019 episode of ESPN SportsCenter. Flair appeared alongside Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch, her opponents in the first-ever women’s main event at WrestleMania 35. Rousey was identified as the “1st female inducted into UFC Hall of Fame” and “Raw Women’s Champion,” while Lynch was cited as the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble winner, but Flair, however, was simply advertised as “Ric Flair’s daughter” on the same show. You can read more about her reaction and why it still bothers her at this link. Flair also spoke about how social media can be an extremely judgmental place, and why she tries to rise above and keep a positive mindset about it; you can read her comments on that at this link.
