Lita On Sexist Double Standards In Professional Wrestling: It’s Something That I Still Deal With To This Day

Sexism is still very present in many walks of life and Lita knows that professional wrestling is no different.

WWE Hall of Famer Lita recently appeared on Oral Sessions With Renee Paquette and the pair discussed how Lita dealt with sexism during her run in WWE. She explained that it was tough at the time, but she still deals with the double standard even years after her in-ring retirement.

“It’s still talked about and my relationships are commented on, on a regular basis. Like on Instagram, still and on social media. I guarantee you they (the men in her previous relationships) don’t get asked about it. I know they don’t get asked about it because they’re dudes and it’s that double standard thing and I think that, at this point, is the problem. I’ll tell you, it was not easy, I for sure almost quit amongst the whole love triangle angle because at that point, it was obviously so hard,” she said, “but also it was out of shame. I wasn’t proud of the way I conducted myself and yes, if I had to do it again, I absolutely would’ve handled myself different, but I didn’t and so I very much made my bed and now I gotta lay in it.

“At that point, I thought I deserved all of these terrible things everyone is saying to me, I deserve not wanting to wake up every morning, so that was really difficult and it was really difficult to, as time passed, let myself off the hook. The only way to move forward in life…and sure you learn from your mistakes and you keep going,” she explained, “but you have to forgive yourself.”
